BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are administered to reduce the appearance of frown lines, worry lines, crow's feet, neckbands, wrinkled chins, and drooping of the corners of the mouth.
When BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into a muscle it causes temporary paralysis of that muscle. Hyperactive facial muscle around the eyes and lower forehead may give a person an angry, tired, or displeased appearance—even when they are not experiencing that emotion. Once these muscles are relaxed, the muscle pull is reduced and the skin flattens that generally lasts for months.
Inactivation of these small muscles reduces this undesirable effect and decreases the propensity to form wrinkles from these expressions.
The cords or bands that protrude from the neck with the aging process may require surgery. However, certain patients can get significant improvements in these bands using BOTOX® Cosmetic therapy.
FDA Approved Cosmetic uses of Botulinum A Toxin:
• Glabella frown lines (wrinkles between the eyebrows)
• Forehead creases—Horizontal forehead or worry lines
• "Crows feet"
• Platysmal Bands (thick cords or bands in the neck)
• Necklace lines
• Wrinkled chins
• Drooping of mouth
"Because skin wrinkling in older patients is often caused by sun damage rather than muscle pull, BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments are most effective for patients 20 to 60 years of age." says Dr. Soldo, who trained extensively in BOTOX® Cosmetic applications with renowned facial plastic surgeon, John Joseph, M.D., of Beverly Hills, California.
This procedure can have remarkable results in improving the wrinkles resulting from hyperactive facial muscles. You may receive treatment immediately following your consultation.
It usually takes 10 to 14 days for the full effect of the treatment to become evident, an effect that generally lasts for three to six months. And frequently, Dr. Soldo notes, when wrinkles return, they're more shallow. Two to three treatments per year usually maintains a desired appearance.
